BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian and Faulkner met for the first time this season in SSAC play here Saturday, as the Eagles would take Game 1 from the Toppers by a score of 13-5.
The Toppers scored in the first inning when
Iris Farve hit a sac fly to give BMCU a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles answered in the second and would follow up with three runs in the third against Topper starter and SSAC Pitcher of the Week
Jacy Weaver.
A three-run homer to left by Faulkner's Madelyn Becker in the fourth would put the game out of reach.
Julianna Ingram would try and get the Toppers back in it in the sixth when she drilled a double to drive in three Toppers, but it wouldn't be enough as the game was called due to the mercy rule.
Weaver (3-7) suffered the loss in the circle for BMCU, tossing four innings, giving up six earned runs on eight hits with a K.
Skylar Lee had two hits for Blue Mountain in the loss, while Ingram finished with three RBI.
GAME 2
Faulkner finished off the sweep in the evening game, winning 5-1 over the Toppers.
Down 1-0 in the first, Blue Mountain's
Evi Edwards tied it up when she belted an RBI double to right to tie it.
A sac-fly and a Topper error in the third would give Faulkner a 3-1 lead, and they followed that up with a pair of unearned runs in the seventh to take the victory.
Madison Montgomery (3-4) had a solid outing despite suffering the loss in the circle for Blue Mountain, tossing a complete game, giving up three earned runs on seven hits with four Ks.
Mallory Jo Mitchell, Edwards and
Maryn Macri all had a double in the loss for the Toppers.
BMCU (10-14, 2-8 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Sunday, as they host Point University in a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. CT.
