BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 2 – Blue Mountain and (RV) Loyola picked up their three-game set here Saturday to decide the SSAC series between the two teams.
The Wolf Pack would take the seven-inning affair with a shutout over the Toppers 13-0, securing the series.
Loyola starter Stephen Still was almost unhittable, as he spun a six-inning gem, getting the victory on just two hits with three Ks.
Matt Koch would get the ball for the Toppers, tossing two strong innings to start.
Loyola would break through in the third with three runs, highlighted by a two-run double by Collin Zeringue and an RBI double by Jaxon Buratt.
The Wolf Pack would plate two more on Topper errors in the fifth, making it 5-0.
Loyola would go on to take a 9-0 lead in the top of the seventh when Jed Cambre belted a two-run homer down the left field line against Topper reliever
Jackson Siler.
Later in the inning, Loyola would plate four more on an error and two fielder's choices against reliever
Solomon Smith and a bases-loaded walk against reliever
Nash Schingle.
Koch (0-1) suffered the loss for BMCU, tossing five innings, giving up five runs on six hits with a K.
Will Crawford and Josiah River had Blue Mountain's two hits.
GAME 3
Blue Mountain was able to salvage the series in the final game, winning an exciting tilt by a score of 10-9.
After being down 1-0 in the bottom of the second, the Toppers fired back with an RBI single from
Chris Smith and a three-run bomb over the left-center field fence from
Hayden Arant against Loyola starter Thomas Hakimian, chasing him from the game and giving BMCU a 4-1 lead. It was Arant's third homer of the season.
Loyola would get two runs on errors in the top of the second, followed by an RBI single in the fifth from Marcus Steen to tie it at 4-4.
In the sixth, after a
Carson Gault double,
Josiah Rivera followed it up with an RBI single against Loyola reliever Hunter Ponson and Ty Roberson drove in a run with an RBI single to make it 6-4 Blue Mountain.
The Wolf Pack would take a 7-6 lead in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a two-run single by Landon Manson against reliever
Jesse Hancock.
The Toppers would retake the lead 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh against reliever Nathan Monceaux, as Gault singled in a run and Rivera hit a sac fly to right.
Loyola retook the lead in the eighth with an RBI single and a groundout score, giving them a 9-8 edge.
As the carousel went around, Blue Mountain grabbed the lead again on a bases-loaded walk and an RBI infield single by
Arderrius Townsend, making it 10-9
That would be enough for
Cameron Gordon to close the show in the ninth to give BMCU the victory.
Gordon (1-1) grabbed the win in relief with no runs or hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Gault finished with three hits, while Coles, Smith and Townsend all had two hits each. Arant finished with three RBI and Rivera had two.
BMCU (12-5, 2-4 SSAC) returns to action Tuesday against Tougaloo on the road in a doubleheader at 12 and 2 p.m. CT.
