LEBANON, Tenn. – GAME 1 - Blue Mountain Christian Softball got back on track here Thursday with a win over Kentucky Christian in Game 1, initiating the mercy rule in six innings by winning 9-1.
Bri Langley (2-1) was dominate in the circle for the Toppers, tossing a complete-game three-hitter and allowing only one earned run with two Ks to pick up the victory.
The Toppers score four runs in the opening frame with
Mallory Jo Mitchell belting her first homer of the season, followed by a bases-loaded walk by
Tyra Billy and a KCU error that plated two more Toppers.
Blue Mountain sealed the deal in the sixth with four more runs, as Mitchell singled in a run and later stole home, followed by a two-run single from
Iris Farve.
Mitchell finished with three hits and two RBI, while
Sam Whitwell had two hits and two RBI, and
Haley McDaniel had two hits and two runs scored. Farve would also finish with two hits and two RBI in the victory.
GAME 2
Blue Mountain finished the job in the late afternoon game, downing Kentucky Christian again, this time by a score of 6-2.
Evi Edwards brought out the big stick for Blue Mountain, hammering a solo homer in the third and later belting a two-run double in the sixth.
Jadyn Yarbro chipped in an RBI single in the sixth and
Sam Whitwell added an RBI double in the seventh for the Toppers.
Edwards would finish with three hits and three RBI, while
Skylar Lee had two hits and two runs scored. Lee would also swipe three bases in the game for Blue Mountain.
Freshman
Madison Montgomery (1-1) would toss a complete game for the Toppers, giving up two runs on seven hits with three Ks.
BMCU (3-4) next heads to Columbus, Ga. Feb. 16-17 for four games at the NFCA/NAIA Leadoff Tournament.
