COLUMBUS, Ga. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian Softball hit the road to open the NFCA/NAIA Leadoff Challenge Friday, falling in Game 1 to Campbellsville (Ky.) by a score of 17-9.
The run-filled game saw the Toppers nine runs come in two innings, the third and the fourth.
The Tigers would use a seven-run third inning and a six-run sixth inning to employ the mercy rule on the Toppers.
Evi Edwards and
Iris Farve both had two RBI for Blue Mountain, while
Skylar Lee added a home run, her first of the season, and two RBI.
Mallory Jo Mitchell would also notch two hits at the plate for the Toppers and would also score two runs in the loss.
Jacy Weaver (0-3) suffered the loss in the circle, going 2.2 innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits four Ks.
GAME 2
Blue Mountain would rebound in the nightcap, defeating Calumet College (Ind.) 7-6.
The scoring wouldn't get started until the fourth, with the Toppers plating two runs on RBI singles from
Tyra Billy and
Kennedy Turner to make it 2-0.
The Toppers would go on a scoring spree in the fifth, as Turner would draw a bases-loaded walk,
Skylar Lee and Billy would both score on passed balls,
Haley McDaniel would have an RBI single and
Julianna Ingram ripped an RBI triple to left to give BMCU a 7-3 lead.
Calumet would score three more runs against BMCU's
Jacy Weaver, but she would hold on to get the pitching victory.
Weaver (1-3) would redeem the loss from the first game by tossing a complete game, giving up six runs on 10 hits with six Ks.
Lee and
Iris Farve would both have two hits for BMCU, while Turner drove in two runs and Billy scored two runs.
Billy and
Mallory Jo Mitchell both added doubles in the victory.
BMCU (4-5) returns to the Challenge Saturday in a doubleheader against Johnson University (Tenn.) at 10 a.m. CT and Freed-Hardeman at 12 p.m. CT.
