BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian Men picked off Point University for the second time this season Thursday, defeating the Skyhawks 70-66.
The Toppers looked sluggish in the first half as they fell behind 36-29, but quickly woke up in the second half to win the SSAC matchup.
The tide started to turn at the 13:25 mark of the second half when
Jalen Boyd-Savage drained one of his three threes on the night.
After buckets from
Keevin Etienne and
Darien Newchurch,
Manny Patrick would drain a three to pull the Toppers to within two at 48-46.
On the next trip down the floor, The Duke,
Vincent Douglas would knock down a deep three to give the Toppers a 49-48 lead.
Douglas would drain another from deep on the next possession, while Newchurch and David M'Baye would score key buckets to keep the Toppers ahead for good late.
Boyd-Savage would lead all scorers with 23 points, while Patrick and Douglas both had 11 points each for the Toppers.
M'Baye had his most impressive game of the season, chipping in six points with seven rebounds.
The win keeps the Toppers' hopes alive of making the SSAC Championship at the end of the month in Montgomery, Ala.
BMCU (9-14, 3-12 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Saturday as they host Thomas University in Blue Mountain with tip set for 2 p.m. CT.
