LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland would get a walk-off RBI single from Gracie Arnemann here Wednesday to down Blue Mountain Christian 2-1.
The runs came late as Blue Mountain would score its lone run in the top of the sixth on a fielder's choice that plated
Jaci White to give the Toppers a late 1-0 lead.
Cumberland answered in the bottom of the sixth when Anna Lay stole second and would score on a Topper error.
Unable to get anything in the top of the seventh, the Toppers found themselves in a walk-off situation for the Phoenix with Arnemann coming through with the game-winning single to center to score Abby Chappell.
Blue Mountain got a solid outing from
Jacy Weaver despite the loss, as she tossed 6.1 innings, giving up just one earned run on nine hits with five Ks.
Haley McDaniel led the Toppers at the plate with two hits, while Kaitlin Higgins got the pitching win for Cumberland, tossing a complete game with a run on five hits and three Ks.
BMCU (1-4) returns to action in Lebanon Thursday in neutral doubleheader action against Kentucky Christian at 12 and 2 p.m. CT.
