BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian and Kansas Christian met for two games Friday here in a four-game series, with the Toppers getting Game 1 by a score of 9-5.
The Topper bats would take a bit to warm up, but they did in a big way in the fourth and fifth innings.
The fourth saw
Hayden Arant drive in two with a double to right and
Carson Gault drive one up the middle for a single and RBI.
The Toppers opened up more in the fifth when
Chris Smith drove in two with an RBI single to left, followed by consecutive RBI doubles from
Arderrius Townsend, Gault and
Austin Garrison.
Jesse Hancock picked up the win for Blue Mountain in relief, tossing two innings with two runs on two hits with four Ks.
Cameron Gordon picked up the save, throwing an inning with a run on a hit with a K.
Smith, Gault and Arant finished with two hits and two RBI each, while Townsend had two hits and an RBI in the win.
GAME 2
It took the entire game, but Blue Mountain got the job done in the nightcap, winning 7-6 over the Falcons.
The Toppers would get sac-flies from
Chris Smith and
Hayden Arant to kick off the first inning and follow it up in the second with a sac-fly from
Tyrese Roberson.
The fourth inning saw the Toppers score on a balk, an RBI single by Roberson and an RBI triple by
Hayden Redding.
With the game tied 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth,
Gavin Coles would drop a bunt down third for a base hit. The Falcons would throw the ball around allowing
Bryland Skinner who was initially on first to come all the way around to score the eventual winning run.
Smith would come on in the seventh to close the doors for the Toppers to earn the save.
Cole Giordano picked up the pitching win for the Toppers, throwing four solid innings with no earned runs on two hits and seven Ks.
Roberson and Skinner would both score twice for the Toppers, with Skinner swiping two bases.
BMCU (3-1) and Kansas Christian will finish the four-game series Thursday in Blue Mountain, with first pitch at 2 p.m. CT.
