MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner Women were able to hold off the Lady Toppers of Blue Mountain here Saturday in SSAC play, winning 71-58.
After being down by eight after the first quarter, the Toppers cut into the Faulkner lead with threes from
Deja Pryor and
Isabella Carlson.
The Toppers got it to within one at 24-23 on a basket by
Rebecca Walter midway through the second period, and then taking a 25-24 lead on a steal and layup from
Maddie Kirk.
The two teams exchanged leads a few times before the break, but the score would be tied at 34-all at the half.
Blue Mountain went on a 7-0 run to start the third quarter, highlighted by a three from
Charnita Brooks to jump out 45-38 lead.
The Eagles would get back into it with big buckets from Morgan Holland and lead 48-45 after the third.
Again, with some lead changes in the fourth, Faulkner began pulling away with help from a three by Neely Johns.
Walter had a solid game for Blue Mountain, finishing with 16 points and three rebounds, followed by 11 points from Guy.
Holland would lead Faulkner with a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Blue Mountain would shoot better from the field than Faulkner, going for 40 percent to Faulkner's 38 percent.
Faulkner would take the edge in rebounding 44-32.
BMCU (4-17, 1-12 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Thursday as they host Point University in Blue Mountain with tip set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
