BMCU Softball drops two at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – GAME 1 - Blue Mountain Christian Softball was back on the road Saturday as they took on NCAA DII Christian Brothers, falling in Game 1 by a score of 7-3.
CBU would get a big inning in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs against BMCU starter Madison Montgomery, highlighted by a a two-run homer to left by Kiera Coulan and a two-run single by Ashynn Smith.
The Bucs added two more in the third on a two-run homer to center by Kylie Burks to take a 6-0 lead, followed by an RBI single from Josie Bond in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.
The Toppers would score three in the seventh innings, as Shante Beaulieu and Skylar Lee scored on CBU errors, followed by an RBI single by Jadyn Yarbro to make it 7-3.  Blue Mountain couldn't scrape together anymore runs, giving CBU Game 1.
Montgomery suffered the loss for BMCU, tossing two innings, giving up six runs on six hits.  Jacy Weaver would come on in relief to throw four innings of three-hit ball with three Ks.
Iris Farve, Maryn Macri and Yarbro had Blue Mountain's three hits.

GAME 2
Christian Brothers would employ the mercy rule in Game 2, defeating the Toppers 9-0 behind a two-hitter from pitcher Emily Schooler.
The Bucs would get a run in the opening innings on an RBI single from Kate Candies against Topper starter Bri Langley.
Another would cross for CBU in the bottom of the second, followed by four in the bottom of the third.
All four runs for Christian Brothers in the third came across on errors from the Blue Mountain defense, making it 6-0.
Candie drove in another run in the fourth for CBU, an RBI single to center, and Josie Bond would hit a sac-fly to right.  Another run would come around unearned, securing the win for the Bucs.
Langley (1-1) suffered the loss for BMCU, tossing four innings, giving up three earned runs on eight hits.
Mallory Jo Mitchell and Sam Whitwell had the two hits for the Toppers, both singles.
BMCU (1-3) returns to action Friday, February 9 against Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. with first pitch set for 1 p.m. CT.
