JACKSON, Tenn. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian Softball returned to non-conference action Thursday against NCAA DII Lane College, with the Toppers taking a 4-3 victory in Game 1.
Blue Mountain would score first in the opener, getting an RBI single by
Jadyn Yarbro to center to make it 1-0 in the top of the second.
Lane answered in the bottom of the inning, getting an RBI double from J. Saint Hilaire to tie it.
On the next at-bat, A. Beattie would single in a run for Lane to make it 2-1 at that point.
Blue Mountain would tie it in the top of the fourth, as
Skylar Lee laid down a sac-bunt to advance
Maryn Macri to second. Macri would come around to score on Lane throwing errors.
The Toppers took the lead in the top of the sixth, as Yarbro drove in another run with a single to left and later came around to score on a groundout by
Audrey Hillis, giving BMCU the 4-2 lead.
Lane would get one more on an RBI single by K. Stinnett, but the Toppers would hold on for the win.
Madison Montgomery (2-2) grabbed the pitching victory for BMCU, tossing a complete game, giving up three runs on eight hits with a K.
Yarbro led the way at the plate for the Toppers with two hits, two RBI and a run scored, while
Haley McDaniel also had two hits. Lee would score twice and drive in a run for the Toppers.
GAME 2
Blue Mountain made it 2-for-2 on the day, as they took the second game from Lane by a score of 13-2 in five innings, enforcing the mercy rule.
The Toppers didn't waste any time jumping on the Dragons, as they would score five runs with two outs in the very first inning.
Julianna Ingram started the rally with a three-run single to right, followed by an RBI single by
Sam Whitwell.
Jadyn Yarbro would score the fifth run for the Toppers on a fielder's choice.
The Toppers would get another run in the second on an RBI line drive to left courtesy of Ingram, making it 4-0.
BMCU would plate two more in the third on an RBI singles by
Evi Edwards and
Iris Farve to make it 8-0.
The Toppers piled on with an RBI single by
Mallory Jo Mitchell and a score on an error in the fourth to make it 10-0.
In the fifth, BMCU scored on a bases-loaded walk and followed that up with a two-run single by
Haley McDaniel to make it 13-2, giving the Toppers the mercy rule win.
Bri Langley (4-3) picked up the pitching win for BMCU, tossing five innings, giving up no earned runs on six hits with three Ks.
McDaniel, Edwards, Frave, Ingram and
Destiny Dill all had two hits each for BMCU, with Ingram driving in four and McDaniel knocking in three.
BMCU (7-10, 0-4 SSAC) returns to SSAC play Saturday, March 9, as they host a strong Stillman team in Blue Mountain at 1 and 3 p.m. CT.
