HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian was back in SSAC action Saturday against state rival William Carey, and it didn't go the Toppers way, as the Crusaders defeated the Toppers 9-1 in Game 1.
Carey would plate four runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run single by Liz Cross.
Four more came across in the fourth for Carey, capped by a two-run double by Caley Kidder to give the Crusaders an 8-0 lead.
Blue Mountain would get its lone run in the top of the fifth when
Haley McDaniel grounded out, but
Shante Beaulieu scored.
Carey would initiate the mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth when Rachel Rodriguez crossed the plate on a double steal.
Jacy Weaver (1-5) suffered the loss in the circle for Blue Mountain, tossing 3.1 innings, giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits with a K.
Ryanne Hornsby got the win for Carey in the circle, throwing all five inning and giving up four hits with two Ks.
Iris Farve,
Skylar Lee,
Audrey Hillis and
Jadyn Yarbro had a hit each for the Toppers, with Farve's being a double.
GAME 2
Game 2 saw William Carey take another one from Blue Mountain by the same score of 9-1.
The Crusaders wasted little time scoring as they would put up seven runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Magen Caro.
Carey would get another in the third on an RBI single by Alex Davis to make it 8-0.
The Toppers would get their lone run in the fourth when
Evi Edwards blasted a solo home run to left field, her second of the season.
WCU would seal the win with another run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double from Lilli Robertson, eventually initiating another mercy rule victory.
Kate Schroeder was dominate in the circle for William Carey as she picked up the win with a five-inning two-hitter, with an earned run and three Ks.
Edwards would have both of Blue Mountain's hits, the homer and a single.
Bri Langley (3-3) suffered the loss in the circle for Blue Mountain, going 0.1 innings, giving up four earned runs on three hits.
BMCU (5-10, 0-4 SSAC) is currently staring at a five-game skid and will next play NCAA DII Lane College Thursday in non-conference action at Jackson State Community College in Jackson, Tenn. at 1 and 3 p.m. CT.
