Toppers chase Roadrunners out of town

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – A pair of double-doubles from Keevin Etienne and Manny Patrick ran Dalton State out of Blue Mountain in SSAC play Tuesday night, as the Toppers ran past the Roadrunners 82-71.
The Toppers had their way with the Dalton defense, as six players put up double figures in scoring, with Etienne leading the way with his eighth double-double of the season at 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Patrick double-double logged in at 10 points and 10 boards, while Jalen Boyd-Savage was right there with 15 points.
Darien Newchurch would tally 13 points and Vincent "Duke" Douglas poured in 12.
Trae Jones would have 10 points for the Toppers also, with the team shooting 41 percent from the floor in the win.
The Toppers jumped out to a 43-31 lead at the half and just kept draining perimeter shots the rest of the way.
The win was a dose of revenge from earlier in the season when the Roadrunners defeated the Toppers in Georgia.
Blue Mountain would shut down Dalton's perimeter play, as they held them to just 3-of-14 from behind the three-point arc.
BMCU (12-15, 6-13 SSAC) now holds the upper hand for the final spot to make the SSAC Championship Tournament, as they have six conference wins while Middle Georgia State and Brewton-Parker both have five wins.  The Toppers will very likely not know their fate for the postseason until Saturday or Sunday.
BMCU will play its final SSAC regular-season game Saturday as they host the No. 1 team in the conference, UT-Southern, at 2 p.m. CT in Blue Mountain on Senior Day.
