Rust no match for Toppers in doubleheader

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian hosted in-state foe Rust College here Tuesday, blasting the Bearcats in Game 1 by a score of 10-2.
The Toppers would score a combined nine runs in the first two inning, highlighted by a three-run double by Chris Smith and a two-run homer by Hayden Arant.
Jackson Siler got the start on the hill for the Toppers, throwing 2.2 innings, giving up two runs on two hits with five walks and a K.
The Toppers laid into Rust starter Bryant Jackson, as they tagged him for six earned runs on six hits.
Blue Mountain would plate one more on a bases-loaded walk by SSAC Player of the Week Arderrius Townsend in the bottom of the third to seal the deal.
Will Crawford, Smith, Arant and Hayden Redding all had two hits apiece in the victory for the Toppers.
Rey Castaneda (1-0) came on in relief to pick up the victory for Blue Mountain, tossing 3.1 innings of no-run ball, allowing four hits.
 
 
GAME 2
It was the Peeko show in Game 2, as the SSAC Player of the Week Arderrius Townsend would belt his seventh homer of the season to lead BMCU to an 11-0 victory.
Townsend's homer would come in the third inning, a solo shot.  Before that, he would double to left in the first to drive in a run.
Chris Hoing would also have an RBI double in the third, along with Gavin Coles batting in a run with an RBI single.
In the fourth, Austin Garrison would rope a two-run double to left that essentially did the Bearcats in.
Ammon Murphy (2-0) shut down the Rust offense to pick up the victory, tossing six innings of scoreless four-hit ball with five strikeouts.
Townsend finished with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored, while Hayden Redding and Bryland Skinner had two hits each.  Garrison would finish with two hits, three runs scored and two RBI for the Toppers.
BMCU (10-3, 1-2 SSAC) returns to non-conference action Wednesday as they host Oakwood (Ala.) at Topper Field in Blue Mountain in one nine-inning game with first pitch at 2 p.m. CT.
