Toppers split Saturday at NFCA/NAIA Leadoff Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian Softball returned to the NFCA/NAIA Leadoff Classic Saturday, easily defeating Johnson University 12-3 in Game 1 and initiating the mercy rule.
Evi Edwards led the way with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored for the Toppers, while Haley McDaniel had three hits with two runs scored.
Skylar Lee would also get two hits with two RBI and Julianna Ingram had two RBI.
Bri Langley (3-1) picked up the victory in the circle for Blue Mountain, tossing a complete game, giving up only one run on eight hits with three Ks.
The Topper offense beat up on Johnson starter K. Rader, shelling her for six earned runs on 10 hits and five walks.
McDaniel, Lee, Ingram and Audrey Hillis all swiped bases in the victory for the Toppers.
 
GAME 2
In the afternoon game, Blue Mountain couldn't get past cross-state foe Freed-Hardeman, as they would fall in a close one 7-6.
The Toppers went into the final inning winning 5-4, but the Lions would get two runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off.
Iris Farve would have two hits for Blue Mountain, while Julianna Ingram would provide two RBI.
Evi Edwards and Skylar Lee would both double for the Toppers in the loss, while Maryn Macri swiped a base.
Madison Montgomery (1-2) suffered the pitching loss for the Toppers, tossing a complete game and giving up six runs on 10 hits with a K.
BMCU (5-6) kicks off SSAC play Friday as they travel to perennial powerhouse Mobile for a doubleheader with first pitch at 3 p.m. in Alabama.
