MT. VERNON, Ga. – Blue Mountain Christian Baseball couldn't pull out the opening SSAC series against Brewton-Parker in Game 3 Saturday, losing 15-14 on a hit-by-pitch walkoff.
Blue Mountain exploded in the first inning, scoring eight runs against BPC starter Brandon Russell.
Hayden Arant would rope a two-run single in the inning, followed by a sac fly from
Tyrese Roberson and an RBI single from
Hayden Redding.
The Barons would plate three of their own in the first against BMCU starter
Shaine O'Keefe, highlighted by a two-run single from Kennard Dawson.
BPC got two more in the third on a couple of sac-flies to make it 8-5 Blue Mountain.
In the fifth, Blue Mountain's
Carson Gault launched his third homer of the season to give the Toppers a 9-5 lead.
Brewton rallied in the bottom of the eighth to tie it at 9-9 capped by a two-run double by Tate Worrell of Topper reliever
Cole Giordano.
Later in the eighth, the Barons would take a 10-9 lead against BMCU reliever
Solomon Smith with an RBI single up the middle from Dawson.
In the top of the ninth,
Arderrius Townsend strolled to the plate with two outs and down to his last strike. Towsend proceeded to blast a two-run bomb to left off Baron reliever Dakota Davis to give BMCU the 11-10 lead. It was Townsend's third homer of the series and sixth of the season.
The Toppers weren't finished, as
Austin Garrison unloaded with a three-run bomb just three batters later against Davis to give the Toppers a 14-10 lead.
Blue Mountain would bring on
Chris Smith in the ninth, but the Barons would answer with four runs to tie it.
Austin Garrison would come on in relief, load the bases and hit Kyran Coleman, forcing the winning run home by Lawrence and giving the Barons the series.
Arant finished with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored, while Gault had two hits and two RBI and Redding had two hits.
Garrison (0-1) suffered the loss for BMCU, while Davis got the win for Brewton-Parker.
BMCU (8-3, 1-2 SSAC) returns to action Tuesday in a doubleheader against state foe Rust College in Blue Mountain with first pitch at 2 p.m. CT.
