BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian swept UT-Southern in the final regular-season game of the year here Friday on Senior Night, paying the Firehawks back from an earlier loss in the season by winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-18).
It's the fourth straight season the Volley Toppers have won 20 or more games under
Reid Gann's direction.
The Volley Toppers were efficient offensively, spiking their way to a team .309 average on the night and holding UT-Southern to a .099 percentage.
Rae Ann Hall led the hit party for BMCU, knocking down 12 kills at a .308 clip, while
Kaytie Rutland was right behind with 11 kills at a .500 average.
On defense,
Kora Wilson led with 18 digs and
Jaiyah Jackson had 11.
A'Dasia Porter would kick in two assisted blocks at the net.
Peyton Kidd and
Hailey Oliver dished out 18 and 15 assists in the 6-2, and Hall added two service aces in the victory.
BMCU will now set its sights on defending the SSAC Championship, set for November 14-16 in Montgomery, Ala. at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
The Toppers will look to hold on to their second-place seeding heading into the tournament, as William Carey plays Loyola Saturday with possible playoff bracket implications.
