BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian Men were still hunting for their first win of the season here Thursday, but it will have to wait, as SSAC foe Faulkner downed the Toppers 3-1.
Blue Mountain came out ready, as they would get a stellar diving shot for goal from
Keishun Kanesaka off a pass from
Karim Swedi just 19 seconds into the game, giving BMCU a quick 1-0 lead.
Faulkner answered swiftly, getting a netter from Caio Pereira off an assist from Caio de Luna Gomes, just out of the reach of Topper keeper
Jesus Calvo.
The Eagles would take the lead at 16:06 when de Luna Gomes got a steal deep in Topper territory and booted it past Calvo to make it 2-1.
Faulkner would score early in the second half, as Leo Freire squared one away unassisted.
The Toppers played tough, but just couldn't find another score, giving the conference victory.
BMCU (0-5-3, 0-3) gets back at it Saturday in SSAC play, hosting Point University (Ga.) in Blue Mountain at 3 p.m. CT.
