THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Blue Mountain Christian Men picked up a huge SSAC victory here Tuesday afternoon, defeating Thomas University 2-1.
The victory also secured BMCU a spot in the upcoming postseason opening round. Thomas came into the match on a two-game winning streak with four SSAC wins.
Eneko Casas and
Francisco Cruz led the charge offensively for Blue Mountain, while keeper
Gabriel Ormeneze was stellar at the net, grabbing 11 saves in the victory.
The Toppers scored first in the match, as Cruz would hit the net off an assist from
Elvis Ezendu to give their team a 1-0 lead at 15:01.
The Night Hawks would answer before the first half was up, as James Hall found the back of the net to tie it at 1-1.
With less than five minutes to go in the game, Casas drilled the net for the game-winner for the Toppers off an assist from
Daniel Gomez.
The win gives the Toppers 10 points in conference, placing them securely in the eighth spot in the SSAC heading into the final match.
BMCU (3-7-4, 3-5-1 SSAC) will next match up with a strong UT-Southern team in SSAC play, set for Saturday, October 26 in Pulaski, Tenn. with first whistle at 2 p.m. CT.
