MT. VERNON, Ga. – Blue Mountain Christian Men spent the first half of the season playing close games but coming up short. The second half of the season has been different, as they scored their second straight SSAC victory here Thursday night, defeating Brewton-Parker 5-1.
The Toppers continue the climb up the conference rankings, looking for a bid to the 2024 SSAC Championship Tournament in early November.
Blue Mountain's first goal came at 42:51 from
Keishun Kanesaka, scoring past Barons' keeper Andrea Abwe to make it 1-0.
The Toppers wasted little time in the second half, as
Jasper Hofland found the back of the net around Abwe to give BMCU a 2-0 lead.
Five minutes later, Brewton's Taha Sekkat would score for his team on a penalty kick to make it 2-1 Blue Mountain.
The Toppers added insurance at 13:28 of the second, when
Matheus Okuma went right on a penalty kick to score and give BMCU the 3-1 lead.
Blue Mountain wasn't finished, as
Marcelo Rodrigues got in on the scoring fun, drilling a score at 77:23 to move the Toppers up 4-1, and later at 2:42
Daniel Gomez added a fifth goal off an assist from Okuma to seal the victory.
The Blue Mountain back line was smothering against the Barons, allowing only one shot on goal the entire night.
BMCU (2-5-3, 2-3 SSAC) stays in Georgia and will travel to Cochran Saturday for a 2 p.m. CT SSAC showdown with Middle Georgia State.
