Thomas gets past Lady Toppers in Georgia

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University held on late down the stretch to defeat Blue Mountain Christian Women Saturday in SSAC play, winning 63-57.
The Night Hawks spoiled a 19-point performance from Blue Mountain's Charnita Brooks, while seeing their own Jasmyn Studamire lead all scorers with 21 points.
Blue Mountain found themselves down 9-0 to start the game but went on a scoring spree to lead 19-16 after the first quarter as Brooks and Deja Pryor would get consecutive baskets each.
Brooks would hit three-straight deep balls to close out the quarter for the Toppers.
The entire second half was close with Thomas converting on several late free-throws to close it out.
Rebecca Walter had another solid outing for Blue Mountain with six points and nine rebounds but found herself in foul trouble for the second straight game.  Pryor would finish with seven points and five boards for the Toppers, while Genise Dabbs had seven points and eight rebounds.
Blue Mountain dominated the rebounding game 49-38, grabbing 15 offensive boards.
The eventual difference in the game came down to free-throws, as the Lady Toppers were 12-of-21 from the charity stripe.
BMCU (3-12, 0-7 SSAC) sits on a five-game skid and returns home for SSAC play Thursday, January 11 in Blue Mountain against Loyola with tip set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
