WEST POINT, Ga. – The Point Lady Skyhawks knocked off Blue Mountain Christian Women here Thursday in SSAC action 81-57.
Point would dominate the boards en route to the victory, pulling down 51 rebounds that included 19 offensive boards.
Five Skyhawks would score in double figures with Amanda Hughley leading the way with 16 points. Ky'Leo Worriels would record a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lady Toppers went up 4-0 to start the game on two buckets in the paint by
Maddie Kirk, but the Skyhawks would heat up to lead 24-13 after the first quarter.
After falling behind 16 early in the second quarter, Blue Mountain would fight back to make it 30-21 on baskets from
Lindsey Murr and
Rebecca Walter. Point would get back-to-back threes midway in the quarter to take a 45-26 lead at the half while jerking down 11 offensive boards.
Kirk and Walter found themselves in foul trouble in the first half for the Toppers, with both sitting a majority of the second quarter.
Point would extend its lead throughout the second half to take the home SSAC contest over the Toppers.
Walter would lead the way for Blue Mountain with 12 points and five rebounds going 6-of-7 from the floor, while
Genise Dabbs finished with 10 points and five rebounds in the loss.
Point would lead in bench scoring with 36 to Blue Mountain's 23. The Skyhawks would also get 18 second-chance points.
BMCU (3-11, 0-6 SSAC) is on a four-game skid and looks to rebound in SSAC action Saturday against Thomas University in Thomas, Ga. with game time set for 11 a.m. CT.
