BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – William Carey Women picked up the in-state rivalry game here Saturday over the Lady Toppers of Blue Mountain, 66-42.
The Crusaders used a diverse group of scorers on the day, with nine players scoring, led by Lauren Rowley who had 13 points.
Genise Dabbs would lead Blue Mountain with a solid game, scoring 13 of her own and pulling down seven rebounds.
Blue Mountain just couldn't get anything to go down when they got open shots in the first half, but the Carey defense had a lot to do with that as they forced 17 turnovers from the Lady Toppers in the game.
Blue Mountain was only able to put up 13 points in the first half but matched that total in the third quarter.
The Lady Toppers had a much better fourth quarter, getting threes from
Isabella Carlson and
Abigail Tatum. Carlson would finish the game with nine points.
Carey would go on to shoot 42 percent from the field while Blue Mountain would shoot 29 percent.
Both benches contributed, as the Crusaders would chip in 26 with Blue Mountain getting 31.
BMCU (3-14, 0-9 SSAC) look for their first SSAC win next Saturday, January 20 as they travel to Stillman in Tuscaloosa, Ala. with tip set for 12 p.m. CT.
