BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – A dreadful night from the foul line cost Blue Mountain Christian Men an SSAC game against Loyola Thursday night, as the Toppers fell 57-55.
The Toppers found their way to the charity stripe 26 times and could only make nine, leading to the loss.
Despite the problems from the line, it looked like Blue Mountain would somehow find a way to win as they held a 54-51 lead with just three minutes left to go in the game.
The Wolf Pack would tie it at 54 from the free throw line, and in contrast, finish the Toppers off from the foul line with two made from Alex Hammond.
The Toppers would get to the foul line with just two seconds left and down 57-54, as
Manny Patrick hit the first but was forced to miss the second to give his team a shot at a tip-in. Patrick did the job by hitting the back of the rim, but the Wolf Pack would grab the rebound on the miss to end the game.
Keevin Etienne led Blue Mountain with 17 points and eight boards, while
Vincent Douglas chipped in 14.
Jalen Boyd-Savage would also hit double figures in scoring, putting in 12.
Kameron Johnson led Loyola with 13 points and Zachary Lee had 11.
The Toppers shot well from the floor, hitting 48 percent while holding the Wolf Pack to just 38 percent.
BMCU (8-9, 2-7 SSAC) looks to snap a two-game SSAC skid Saturday as they host state rival William Carey in conference play with tip set for 2 p.m. in Blue Mountain.
