BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian Men couldn't finish off the Crusaders of William Carey Saturday, dropping a big SSAC contest 61-55.
WCU fought its way back starting around the five-minute mark of the second half, as the Toppers led much of the game up until then.
With 5:25 left in the game, Blue Mountain led 53-51, but Carey's Ashton Campbell drained a three to give his team a one-point lead.
After Blue Mountain's
Naysean Clemente turned it over on the next possession, Campbell would drive the baseline and score a lay-in to give his team a three-point lead.
The Toppers would get a few stops late but couldn't get anything of substance other than a basket from
Trae Jones for its final bucket of the match.
Kaeden Laws led Carey with 14 points, while Ankerion Gross had 13 and Dylan Brumfield chipped in 12.
Vincent Douglas and
Manny Patrick led the Toppers with15 points each, with Douglas hitting five from behind the three-point arc and Patrick draining three.
Keevin Etienne had another solid outing for the Toppers, as he chipped in 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
A big key for Carey was rebounding, as they brought down 39 to Blue Mountain's 24. The Toppers also had 13 turnovers and Carey had 14.
BMCU (8-10, 2-8 SSAC) finds itself on a three-game skid with its next SSAC game Saturday, January 20 against Stillman in Tuscaloosa, Ala. with tip set for 2 p.m. CT.
