WEST POINT, Ga. – Blue Mountain Christian Women earned its first SSAC victory of the season, downing conference newcomer Point 3-1.
The Toppers'
Madison Zamudio did big damage in the first half, scoring a brace within seven minutes of each goal.
Zamudio's first goal came at the 11:27 mark of the game off an assist from
Annabel Trauschke. Her second goal came at the 18:14 mark, unassisted.
Trauschke added to her assist with a goal of her own, an unassisted netter at 40:18 to give the Toppers the 3-0 halftime lead.
The Skyhawks would finally get on the board in the second half when Bailey Turner would score for her team to cut it to 3-1, but that would be all they could get.
Blue Mountain had been on a four-game dry spell in scoring before today's contest.
"It's good to get that conference win," BMCU head coach
Lauren Lear said. "We've had issues getting the ball in the net the last few games, so hopefully this can jumpstart our offense. I'm really proud of how our girls played today."
The Topper offense would get off 10 shots on goal for the day, while keeper
Jordan Gates had two saves in the victory. The Topper defense would only allow three shots on goal to the Skyhawks on the day.
BMCU (3-7-1, 1-3 SSAC) returns to SSC action Saturday, October 7 against Life University in Marietta, Ga. with a 3:30 p.m. CT start.
