JACKSON, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian Women continued its non-conference schedule Friday, travelling to NCAA DIII foe Belhaven.
The Belhaven defense would prove to be too much for the Lady Toppers, as the Blazers grabbed the victory 2-0.
The Blazers would get the first goal of the match, a netter by Lizbeth Eslava that found the lower left goal on an assist by Kyla Shaw at the 21:05 mark in the first.
Belhaven scored again at the 28:19 mark of the first, pressing the Blue Mountain offense, on a high shot left by Kaci Craft that got around Topper keeper
Jordan Gates. Taylor Ford provided the assist to make it 2-0.
The Belhaven defense never allowed Blue Mountain to threaten for a goal chance, as the Lady Toppers had no shots on goal and a lone shot by
Larisa Mercado.
Gates and
Caitlyn Fox split halves for Blue Mountain between the sticks, with Fox grabbing eight saves with no goals in the last 45 minutes.
The Blazers finished with 21 shots and 14 shots on goal in the contest.
BMCU (1-2-1) returns to action tomorrow as they host Birmingham Southern in Blue Mountain at 4 p.m. CT.
