TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian travelled to Stillman for a rare Wednesday afternoon doubleheader that saw the Tiger sweep the Toppers in the SSAC Game of the Week.
Game 1 would see the Tigers get three runs in the third against Topper starter
Harley Mullins, highlighted by an RBI double by Bailie Seals.
Stillman got a run in the first on a sac fly by Katelyn Lankford, and then followed up with two more runs in the third on errors by the Blue Mountain defense.
Blue Mountain's lone run came in the fifth against Stillman ace Lexi McCray, an RBI single by
Mallory Jo Mitchell that scored
Sindle Williams.
Mullins (6-4) suffered the loss for Blue Mountain, tossing a complete game, giving up two earned runs against four hits with a K.
McCray got the win for Stillman, throwing six innings, giving up a run on seven hits.
Jasmine Wade came on for the save in the seventh for the Tigers.
Mitchell and
Lane Thaxton both led BMCU at the plate with two hits apiece, with the Toppers outhitting the Tigers 8-4.
GAME 2
Stillman used a two-run third inning to oust Blue Mountain in the nightcap. Winning 4-2 in Game 2 to sweep the duo.
The Tigers got a sac fly from Brooklyn Pennington in the first against Topper starter
Jacy Weaver, followed by an RBI from Pennington in the third, and later a bases-loaded walk by Bailie Seals to give Stillman a 3-0 lead.
Another crossed for Stillman in the fourth on an RBI single by Taylor Roland, but Blue Mountain threatened in the fifth with RBI singles by
Lane Thaxton and
Julianna Ingram.
The Toppers once again threatened in the sixth, placing multiple runners on base but stranding them.
Weaver (3-8) suffered the loss for Blue Mountain in a complete-game performance, giving up four runs on five hits with two Ks.
Faith Byran got the win for Stillman, throwing five innings, giving up two runs on nine hits with two Ks. Elisabeth Boso grabbed the save, tossing 1.2 innings in relief.
Thaxton,
Mallory Jo Mitchell and
Sindle Williams led the Toppers at the plate with two hits each.
BMCU (16-18, 7-11 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Friday, April 14 against No. 15 Mobile in a doubleheader at 3 and 5 p.m. CT in Mobile, Ala.
