BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 3 – No. 12 William Carey completed the three-game SSAC sweep of Blue Mountain here Sunday, winning 9-3.
The Toppers popped the top first on scoring, as
Gavin Coles drove an RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the second against Carey starter Dario Herrera to give BMCU a 1-0 lead.
Carey would get the run back, plus some, in the top of the third on an RBI single by Bobby Lada on an RBI single to right against Topper starter
Jackson Siler.
R.J. Stinson would later hit a sac fly in the same frame, followed by a two-run double by Jake Lycette to give Carey the 4-1 lead.
Another crossed in the sixth for Carey on a sac fly to left by Kris Jones to make it 5-1.
In the seventh, the Crusaders would get a two-run double from Stinson and a two -run single by Jones against Topper reliever
Caleb Bass, taking a 9-1 lead.
The Toppers would get two in the eighth on a sac fly to center by
Bryland Skinner and a bases loaded walk by
Nash Schingle to make it 9-3.
Siler (2-2) suffered the loss for BMCU, tossing six innings, giving up five runs on eight hits with two Ks.
Coles, Skinner and
Hayden Arant each had two hits for Blue Mountain in the loss.
BMCU (23-24, 6-18) concludes the regular season Tuesday, hosting in-state Mississippi University for Women in a single game at 5 p.m. CT.
