BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – In the final regular season game of the year, Blue Mountain Christian shut out in-state foe Mississippi University for Women 10-0 in non-conference play, enacting the mercy rule in seven innings.
The Toppers got a dominate outing from
Matthew Koch who shut down the Owl offense for the pitching win.
Koch (4-4) would hurl six innings of shutout ball, allowing only three hits with eight Ks.
The Toppers' first run came on a sac fly to center by
Bryland Skinner in the second, followed by another sac fly in the third by
Austin Beech.
Alex Frillman would also drive in a run with an RBI single to left, and
David Dickerson provided an RBI double to left in the bottom of the fourth for the Toppers to make it 4-0.
In the sixth,
Chris Hoing drilled a two-run single to left and
Gavin Coles had an RBI single to left.
Austin Beech piled on for the Toppers in the same frame, rapping an RBI double to right to make it 8-0.
The Toppers applied the mercy rule in the seventh when Coles laced a two-run single to right to end the game.
Skinner finished with three hits and three runs scored for the Toppers, while Coles had two hits and three RBI.
Hayden Arant and
Easton Rainer both chipped in two hits also in the victory for Blue Mountain.
BMCU (25-23, 7-17 SSAC) closes out the regular season and awaits seeding for the SSAC Championship, slated for May 3-6 at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss.
*Note: BMCU earned an extra win and dropped a loss from their record Tuesday due to Faulkner reporting an ineligible player during an earlier series against the Toppers.
