No. 13 Middle Ga. St. swipes two games from Toppers

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – No. 13 Middle Georgia State held on to win an SSAC thriller over Blue Mountain here in Game 1 Saturday, shutting out the Toppers 1-0.
The game would come down to the seventh inning as Blue Mountain would have runners on first and third with two outs when Destiny Dill would be called out on being out of the batter's box that ended the game, giving MGA's Madisyn Riggins a complete-game shutout.
Riggins would surrender four hits with four Ks for the victory, while Blue Mountain's Harley Mullins (7-8) suffered the loss in a stellar outing where she only allowed three hits and struck out four.
The Knights' lone run came in the very first inning on a Blue Mountain error that scored Riggins.
Mallory Jo Mitchell led Blue Mountain at the plate with two hits in the loss.
 
GAME 2
Game 2 was a little more decisive, as Middle Georgia would get a 7-4 victory to sweep the series from the Toppers.
Blue Mountain's Lane Thaxton would account for all four of her team's runs, belting two home runs; a two-run shot in the first and a two-run blast in the fifth.
Middle Georgia scored three in the second inning against Topper starter Jacy Weaver and followed it up with two more runs in the fourth, highlighted by RBI singles from Summer Lawrence and Addison Renfroe.
A seventh-inning RBI single by Alexis Cosgrove would send the Knights home with the conference victory.
Weaver (4-12) suffered the loss for BMCU, tossing five innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits with a K.
Thaxton's two-homer game gives her seven home runs on the season.  Mallory Jo Mitchell and Hailey McDaniel chipped in two hits apiece also in the loss for Blue Mountain.
BMCU (17-25, 8-18 SSAC) closes out the regular season Thursday in Blue Mountain, hosting Stillman in an SSAC doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. CT.
