BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian snapped a six-game losing streak in Game 1 against Brewton-Parker Thursday, winning 6-2.
The Toppers struck first in the bottom of the second on a solo homer to deep left by
Evi Edwards, followed by an RBI single from
Sindle Williams against Brewton starter Laykin Brown.
The Barons would get one against Topper ace
Harley Mullins in the top of the third on a fielder's choice.
Blue Mountain got the run back in the bottom of the frame on a
Lane Thaxton RBI single, making it 3-1.
The Toppers finished off the Barons in the fifth, as Edwards struck again, this time with a two-run single to left and
Sam Whitwell hit a sac fly to center.
Mullins (7-7) tossed a complete game to nab the win, giving up two runs on nine hits with a K.
Edwards finished with two hits and three RBI, while
Tyra Yahola and
Jadyn Yarbro both had two hits apiece for the Toppers in the win.
GAME 2
Brewton-Parker rebounded in the nightcap to stave off the season sweep from the Toppers, winning 13-3.
The Barons would strike first against BMCU starter
Jacy Weaver, getting two runs in the second on infield groundout with runners on third.
Another would cross for Brewton on a Topper error in the third, giving them a 3-0 lead.
The Barons offense added four more in the top of the fifth, highlighted by three straight RBI singles to make it 7-0.
Blue Mountain got its first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth, a solo homer to dead center from
Lane Thaxton, her fourth on the season.
Tyra Yahola followed it up with an RBI infield single to make it 7-2.
Brewton got two more in the sixth on an RBI double by Kristi Peters and an RBI single by Cayden Fleming to take a 9-2 lead.
In the bottom of the frame, Thaxton drilled another solo shot, this time to left center, her fifth of the year, making it 9-3.
The Barons would plate four in the seventh against reliever
Brianna Langley, highlighted by a two-run triple by Mackenzie Tripp to finish the game.
Weaver (4-11) suffered the loss, tossing four innings, giving up two earned runs on eight hits with three Ks.
Thaxton led the way at the plate for Blue Mountain with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
BMCU (17-23, 8-16 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Saturday, hosting Middle Ga. St. in a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. CT.
