MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Hayden Arant belted two homers Tuesday in a non-conference tilt against former SSAC foe Bethel, leading Blue Mountain to a 7-5 victory.
Blue Mountain jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the third inning, with
Austin Beech tripling in a run in the first and blasting a two-run homer in the third, his seventh of the season.
Arant added a solo homer in the third, his fourth of the year.
The Toppers chased Bethel starter J.J. Gray in four innings, tagging him for three earned runs on four hits.
Arant struck again in the top of the sixth, this time blasting a three-run homer off Bethel reliever Ryan White, giving him five long ball on the season.
The Wildcats would get one in the fourth against Topper starter
Peyton Smith, and eventually four more in the seventh thanks to a two-run homer from Jake McDaniel before BMCU reliever
Drew Humble could come in and stop the bleeding.
Smith would get the victory, tossing 6.1 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits with five Ks. Humble picked up the save, his first of the season.
Beech and Arant both finished with two hits apiece for the Toppers, with Arant driving in four.
BMCU (22-17, 6-12 SSAC) returns to action in a rare Wednesday game, hosting in-state foe Rust in non-conference action at Topper Field with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. CT.
