WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – GAME 1 (
Box Score) Williams Baptist was able to snap Blue Mountain Christian's 10-game winning streak in Game 1 of their doubleheader Tuesday, winning 8-7.
The Eagles quicky ousted Topper starter
Taylor Sipes, getting four runs in the first inning and another in the second off the BMCU hurler.
Blue Mountain would get a run in the third on a sac fly by
Josh Smith, and battle back in the sixth on RBI singles by
Austin Beech and
Nash Schingle along with a score by
Alex Frillman on a fielder's choice.
The Toppers would take the lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Smith, a hit batsman with the bases loaded and a sac fly from
Easton Rainer.
The Eagles were able to score two in the bottom of the frame on a couple of RBI singles off Topper reliever
Jesse Hancock to tag him with the loss.
Smith, Beech and Rainer all led Blue Mountain with two RBI apiece.
GAME 2
(
Box Score) Blue Mountain rebounded in the backend game, picking up a 7-3 victory over the Eagles thanks to three solo homers.
The Toppers turned the table offensively on the Eagles, scoring four runs across the first three innings, getting a two-run double by
Austin Beech in the first, an RBI double from
Hayden Arant in the second and a bases-loaded walk from
Nash Schingle in the third.
Reiley Tate and
Josh Smith would both mash back-to-back solo home runs off WBU reliever Parker Jeffries in the fourth, followed up by a solo shot from
Gavin Coles in the fifth.
Tate would finish with three hits and two runs scored, while Smith had two hits and two runs scored for the Toppers and Arant chipped in two hits.
Weston Fuller would pick up the victory on the bump for BMCU, tossing five innings, allowing three runs on four hits with two Ks.
BMCU (18-4, 3-0 SSAC) gets a stiff SSAC test for its next outing; a three-game set with Mobile in Blue Mountain Friday and Saturday. First pitch Friday is at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader and Saturday's single game is slated for noon CT.
