BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 (Box Score) No. 8 Mobile rallied to score two runs in the ninth inning against (RV) Blue Mountain Friday night, winning 8-7 in Game 1 of the SSAC series.
Blue Mountain had a 7-6 lead going into the final inning with closer Shaine O'Keefe on the mound.
O'Keefe induced a ground ball to short to Reiley Tate but was bobbled, setting up a deep double to center by Trevor Musgrove.
The next at-bat, O'Keefe threw a wild pitch that scored Landon Moore, and finally a ground ball back to O'Keefe that could have been a double play, but the righty would throw it into center field allowing Musgrove to cross and give Mobile the victory.
Blue Mountain had a 6-3 lead after four, thanks to a double to right center by Hayden Arant that scored two.
Alex Frillman would have three RBI in the loss for the Toppers, while Austin Beech was 3-for-5 at the plate.  Leadoff man Gavin Coles had three walks in the contest with two runs scored.
O'Keefe (3-1) was charged with the loss in the inning of work, while NAIA Pitcher of the Week Josh Smith started on the bump for the Toppers, striking out five against five earned runs and 10 hits.
Trevor Andrews got the win for Mobile, while Tucker Musgrove came on in the ninth to earn the save.
Blue Mountain would go on to commit five errors in the contest.
The two teams will square off Saturday to decide the series, playing a doubleheader at Topper Field set for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. CT.
