BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – No. 10 Mobile got a gem from starting pitcher Emily Butts in Game 1 of the SSAC series with Blue Mountain, with the Rams getting a 4-0 shutout.
Butts threw a complete-game, two-hitter while striking out six hitters to stifle the Topper offense.
The Toppers got a solid outing from
Harley Mullins (5-4) who threw a complete game, giving up two earned runs on 10 hits while mowing down eight Mobile batters, taking the loss.
Mobile got two runs in the first on an RBI single by Caitlin McRee and an error by Mullins.
McRee struck again in the top of the second with an RBI double down the left field line.
Mobile's final run came in the fourth on an unearned run.
Sam Whitwell and
Julianna Ingram had Blue Mountain's two hits, both back-to-back singles in the bottom of the second.
GAME 2
Mobile swept the day in Game 2, getting six runs over across innings to win 7-2 over the Toppers.
Blue Mountain got off to a good start in the backend game, getting a sac fly from
Sam Whitwell in the second and an inside-the-park homer from
Tyra Yahola in the third against Mobile starter Brinkley Goff.
Mobile answered with a run in the fourth and three in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run single by Kayla Moran against Blue Mountain starter
Jacy Weaver.
The Rams got three more in the sixth against BMCU reliever
Lane Thaxton, capped by a two-run double to right by Linnie Lanham.
Weaver (4-8) suffered the loss for the Toppers, tossing five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits.
Goff grabbed the win for Mobile, throwing a complete game, giving up two runs on seven hits with six Ks.
Yahola and
Evi Edwards both recorded a pair of hits in the loss for Blue Mountain.
BMCU (13-13, 4-6 SSAC) returns to action Friday in an SSAC doubleheader against William Carey in Blue Mountain at 1 and 3 p.m. CT.
