MCKENZIE, Tenn. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian dropped the non-conference midweek opener here to Bethel Tuesday, losing 1-0 in eight innings.
The Toppers did everything better than the Wildcats, but couldn't get the win, even getting a two-hitter from righty Harley Mullins.
The Wildcats would get the lone run with a walkoff RBI single from Katie Caruthers in the bottom of the eighth, unearned.
The Toppers would get two hits apiece from Tyra Yahola and Haley McDaniel, while Mullins would toss 8.1 innings of two-hit ball with seven 7 Ks.
Bethel's Madison Locke picked up the complete-game victory for her team, also striking out seven hitters.
 
GAME 2
In the backend game, Bethel applied the mercy rule to the Toppers, winning 10-0 in five innings.
The Toppers didn't help themselves out, committing six errors in the contest.
The Wildcats' big inning came in the very first frame where they would score eight runs, highlighted by RBI doubles by Andi Wheeler and Jezebelle Quintana and two Topper errors.
Jacy Weaver suffered the loss for BMCU, as she couldn't record an out in the first, giving up five runs on five hits.
Kayla Reichardt came on in relief, but couldn't contain the Bethel offense, giving up five runs on two hits with a K.
Quintana picked up the win for Bethel in the circle, tossing five innings, giving up six hits with four Ks.
Mallory Jo Mitchell led Blue Mountain at the plate with two hits.
BMCU (9-9, 2-2 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Friday in a doubleheader against Faulkner in Montgomery, Ala. at 1 and 3 p.m. CT.
