BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. (GAME 2) – No. 8 Mobile swept an SSAC series from (RV) Blue Mountain Saturday, winning both games, and getting Game 1 by a score of 10-4.
The Toppers would score a run in four consecutive innings, but a three-run sixth and two-run seventh by Mobile would lead to a Ram victory.
In the fifth,
Alex Frillman launched a solo homer for the Toppers, being the final run his team was able to produce.
In the sixth, Mobile would get a two-run single from Trevor Andrews and an RBI single from Trevor Musgrove.
In the seventh, two more crossed for the Rams on an RBI single by James.
Matthew Koch suffered the loss on the bump for BMCU, going six innings, giving up eight runs on eleven hits with 5 Ks.
Steven Poche picked up the win for Mobile, going 5.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on eight hits with a K.
GAME 3
Mobile finished off the sweep with a late-game rally, as they did Friday night, finding four runs in the ninth inning to get the victory 13-11.
Blue Mountain held a 10-9 lead going into the ninth, but would get an RBI single from Steven Bowman, a bases-loaded walk and three runs on Topper errors.
The Toppers looked to be on their way to a victory early, getting five runs in the first frame against Mobile starter Jay Griffin. BMCU battered Griffin for five runs on six hits in just two-thirds of an inning before the hook came.
The Rams got to Blue Mountain's relief staff of
Jake Reeder and
Cole Giordano, getting four earned runs on five hits and four walks in the final two and a third innings. Giordano would suffer the loss, going 1.1 innings of work.
Jackson Siler started on the mound for Blue Mounatin, going six innings, giving up six runs on nine hits with three Ks.
Josh Smith would have three hits and two RBI in the loss for BMCU, while
Austin Beech and
David Dickerson had two hits apiece. Dickerson would also drive in two runs.
Reiley Tate scored three runs for the Toppers, also.
Trevor Musgrove came on an got the pitching victory for Mobile, throwing an innings with a run and a strikeout.
BMCU (18-7, 3-3 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Friday and Saturday in a three-game set against Middle Ga. St. in Cochran, Ga. First pitch for both days are set for 12 p.m. CT.
