BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian Women got a pair of 21-point performances from
Charnita Brooks and
Deja Pryor Saturday to knock off NCAA DII Lane College 74-67.
The Lady Toppers took control early with
Rebecca Walter and
Bailey Gillies both putting up six points in the first quarter.
Pryor started to heat up in the second quarter with a couple baskets and a three-ball.
It was Brooks' turn as the third quarter got under way, as she scored six straight points for Blue Mountain early.
The Blue Mountain defense would hold solid late, giving them the non-conference victory and snapping a six-game losing skid.
"I'm really proud of our resilience tonight," BMCU head coach
Tracy Rice said. "Every time Lane made a run, we stepped it back up. It was so good to see us shoot the ball better tonight."
The Toppers would hit nine threes with Pryor hitting four and Gillies draining three.
Gillies would finish with nine points, while Walter and
Genise Dabbs both chipped in eight. Walter would also pull down six rebounds for the Toppers.
BMCU (2-7, 0-2 SSAC) returns to action Monday as they travel to Tougaloo College in non-conference play with tip set for 5:00 p.m. CT.
