JACKSON, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian won its second straight game here Monday night, defeating Tougaloo College 75-71.
The Toppers used a 23-point second-quarter outburst to put the lid on the Bulldogs for the second time this season.
Blue Mountain would take the lead midway through the second with
Maddie Kirk draining two free-throws to make it 21-19.
Kirk followed that up with a three, followed by a three from leading scorer
Charnita Brooks. Brooks would close out the half with another three with two seconds left to give Blue Mountain the 34-31 lead at the break.
Despite coming back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth, the Bulldogs couldn't hold the Toppers from scoring as
Deja Pryor was able to keep the Bulldogs at bay with a pair of free-throws late. The freshman Pryor has been a sparkplug for the Lady Toppers since joining the starting lineup the last two victorious games.
"I'm very proud of how our ladies withstood their run late," BMCU head coach
Tracy Rice said. "We continue to shoot the ball better and we're making good in-game decisions. It was another great win for us."
Brooks would finish with 21 points for Blue Mountain, while Pryor had 18 and Kirk had her first double-figure scoring game with 15.
Walter controlled the boards for the Toppers, hauling in 10 boards while chipping in six points.
The Toppers would hit 10 threes, while its defense forced 17 Bulldog turnovers.
BMCU (3-7, 0-2 SSAC) will jump back into SSAC play Thursday as they host Mobile at 5:30 p.m. CT in Blue Mountain at Tyler Gym.
