PULASKI, Tenn. – Blue Mountain Christian Women fell in SSAC action here Saturday to UT-Southern 77-50 behind a 22-point performance from Kassidy Broussard.
Rebecca Walter led Blue Mountain in scoring with 11 points, while
Charnita Brooks chipped in 10.
Maddie Kirk followed with nine points and led on the boards for BMCU with seven rebounds.
Blue Mountain jumped out to an early lead thanks two threes from
Deja Pryor and
Alexis Wynn, but the Firehawks led 16-12 after the first quarter as BMCU top scorer Brooks had to go to the bench in foul trouble.
UTS opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run before
Isabella Carlson stopped the bleeding with a three. Despite a deep three
Bailey Gillies midway through the quarter, the Firehawks took a 37-22 lead into the half.
Blue Mountain opened the third quarter on a 5-0 run as Brooks made her return hitting a layup and a three, but the Firehawks held a 55-39 lead.
The Firehawks stepped on the gas in the fourth with Takiyah Goff leading the way to put away the Toppers.
The Toppers didn't help themselves as they would turn the ball over 24 times and go just 9-of-16 from the free-throw line.
UTS would get 32 bench points to BMCU's 10 and outrebound the Toppers 35-24. The Firehawks would also shoot close to 50 percent from the field.
BMCU (3-9, 0-4 SSAC) now has an extended break for Christmas and will return to SSAC action Saturday, Dec. 30 as they host Faulkner at noon CT.
