FHU shoots down Lady Toppers

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – (RV) Freed-Hardeman picked up a non-conference win here Tuesday over Blue Mountain 58-37.
The Lions' Rachel Satterly and K.J. White led the way with 13 points each, while Kelsey Bender chipped in 11.
Charnita Brooks put in another solid night of work for Blue Mountain, scoring 14 points and pulling down seven rebounds.
Blue Mountain pulled out to an early 12-11 lead in the first quarter thanks to three buckets from Rebecca Walter and a three from Brooks.
The Lions' Raegan Purvine would drain a three with three seconds left to give her team a 14-12 lead at the end of the first.
FHU started pulling away in the second with a nine-point run that was finally ended by Walter with a basket in the paint.
White would hit two threes late in the second to send her team into the half with a 28-16 lead.
The Lions would put up 22 points in the third to go on to the victory.
Walter would finish with eight points also for the Lady Toppers and pull down four rebounds.
Blue Mountain would shoot 26 percent from the field and go 6-of-23 from three, while Freed shot 33 percent hitting 9-of-31 from deep.
The loss landed BMCU on a five-game skid with the SSAC season about to heat up.
BMCU (1-6, 0-1 SSAC) next hosts Stillman in SSAC action Saturday in Blue Mountain with tip set for 12 p.m. CT.
