MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University got past Blue Mountain Christian Women here Saturday to open the 2023 SSAC schedule, winning 74-63.
The Lady Toppers would get a pair of 18-point performances from Charnita Brooks and Crystin Guy, but the Running Eagles would get 16 points from Maikya Simmons, 15 from Laphina Campbell and 14 from Maeisha Teasley.
Blue Mountain would jump out to a 17-14 lead in the first but would find themselves down at the break 31-28.
After both teams scored 19 points each in the third, the fourth quarter told the story as Teasley would start the run with a layup and Deborah Powell followed with a layup.
The Toppers would go on to shoot 35 percent while Life would shoot 48 percent from the field.
Freshman Abigail Tatum chipped in nine points in the losing effort, hitting three from the three-point arc.
Points off turnovers was a big issue for Blue Mountain, as Life would score 19 off them while also outscoring Blue Mountain 40-26 in the paint.
The Running Eagles would also dominate the bench points, getting 40 to Blue Mountain's 26.
The loss is the third straight for the Toppers as they move to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the SSAC on the young season
BMCU will next host in-state foe No. 23 Rust College Monday in Blue Mountain with tip set for 4 p.m. CT.
