WEST POINT, GA. – Blue Mountain Christian picked up its 11
th straight victory and 28
th straight SSAC win here Friday, rolling past conference newcomer Point University 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-13).
The match kicked off a two-game road trip to the Peach State, as the Toppers meet up with the second best team in the conference Saturday, Life, in the SSAC Game of the Week.
After a dominate first set from Blue Mountain, the Skyhawks gave the Toppers a run in the second, but two errors from Point would end the set and go to BMCU 26-24.
The third was cut and dry, as the Volley Toppers demonstrated why they are the best team in the conference, blasting the Skyhawks 25-13.
Reanna Brown led the way with a double-double for Blue Mountain, dishing out 18 assists with 10 digs along with three service aces. Brown's 6-2 cohort
Michaela Frederick handed out 14 assists also for BMCU.
The Topper offense continued its net assault, as
Rae Ann Hall led with 11 kills, while
Olivia Ashton had eight and
Kaytie Rutland had six. Hall hit at a .385 clip on the night and Ashton hit .375. Rutland would also chip in two assisted blocks on defense.
On defense,
Jaiyah Jackson and
Kora Wilson both had 11 digs to lead, while the Topper front line forced the Skyhawks to hit an abysmal .008 percentage on the night.
Across the conference the Toppers are 21-1 in sets played this season, with the only dropped set coming to Loyola.
BMCU (13-1, 7-0 SSAC) and Life will lock horns tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT in Marietta, Ga. in the biggest SSAC matchup of the season thus far.
