BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Dalton State came into town Saturday and nabbed a 2-0 shutout of Blue Mountain Women on Senior Day in the final regular-season game of the year.
The Roadrunners would get both goals in the first half on the Toppers, while DSU keeper Brooke Alvarez was credited with a clean sheet shutout with six saves.
Dalton's first goal would come at the 6:24 mark when Ava Vandoren scored around Topper keeper Jordan Gates on an assist from Ria Cox.
Cox struck again just a few minutes late at the 13:54 mark, this time on an unassisted score to make it 2-0 and stay that way the rest of the match.
Blue Mountain would have a look at the goal more than Dalton, as the Toppers got off six shots on goal but couldn't find the twine, while Gates would have two saves out of four tries between the stick for BMCU.
The loss drops Blue Mountain to 5-11-1 overall and 3-7 in the SSAC to complete the regular season.
BMCU has qualified for the SSAC Championship and will learn where they will play soon, as the conference is set to announce the bracket over the weekend.
