BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – (RV) Blue Mountain Christian won its 16
th straight here Friday with a sweep over (RV) Loyola in the SSAC Game of the Week, winning 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-12).
The win snapped Loyola's 10-game winning streak, with the Wolf Pack's last loss coming to Blue Mountain September 15.
The two teams were jockeying for first place inside the SSAC, but the Toppers will now head down the stretch with the advantage.
Loyola didn't have an answer for Blue Mountain's front line tonight, as
Randi Crandall and
Olivia Ashton shut down the Wolf Pack offense, as Crandall would pick up six assisted blocks and Ashton with four. The Toppers would have 18 blocks on defense, 16 assisted and two solos.
A'Dasia Porter was a big part of that also, getting two assisted and the two solos.
Ashton would also belt 12 kills at .400 to lead the offense for BMCU, while
Gigi Sasso had eight kiils at .227.
Reanna Brown led in assists with 21 in the 6-2 rotation, and BMCU sparkplug
Jaiyah Jackson ran down everything in her vicinity with 17 digs.
Five service aces crossed the net for the Toppers, with
Kora Wilson getting two.
"This was a very big win for us tonight," BMCU head coach
Reid Gann said. "Loyola is always tough, so I'm extremely proud of our ladies and how they competed. We knew what was in front of us, and we went out there and got the job done."
BMCU (18-1, 12-0 SSAC) remains perfect inside the SSAC, and will host state rival William Carey Saturday in Blue Mountain at 1 p.m. CT.
