BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – (RV) Thomas held on to pull off a 2-1 victory over Blue Mountain Thursday evening in SSAC play.
The match was a defensive standstill for much of the game, including a 0-0 halftime score.
The Knighthawks would break the tie at the 65:06 mark when Alex Ruane scored on a penalty kick around Topper goalie
Alvaro Lopez to make it 1-0.
Blue Mountain didn't waste any time answering, as
Matias Cisterna would find the back of the net at 69:36 off an assist from
Eneko Casas to tie it at 1-1.
The deciding goal would come at 73:44 when Thomas' Luiz Anchieta twisted a free kick around the left side of the goal to give his team the victory.
Lopez finished with three saves for the Toppers, while BMCU could only get off two shots on goal against the Thomas defense.
BMCU (4-6-3, 2-3-3 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Saturday against Faulkner in Montgomery, Ala. at 7:30 p.m. CT.
