Matt Brunet is entering his fourth season as the head softball coach at Blue Mountain Christian University.
Since his arrival, the program has broken 29 records, including wins, winning percentage, runs, hits, doubles, triples, RBIs, total bases, hit-by-pitches, stolen bases, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, complete games, shutouts, saves, and fielding percentage. The Toppers have also set individual records in batting average, on-base percentage, at-bats, runs, hits, triples, stolen bases, RBIs, hit-by-pitches, career stolen bases, career hit-by-pitches, and career ERA.
During the 2026 season, the Toppers went 39-17-1 and advanced to the SSAC Semifinals in the 2026 SSAC Softball Championship. They received the program's first-ever at-large bid to the opening round of the NAIA Softball National Championship, en route to collecting their first-ever national tournament victory with a 4-3 win over Williams Baptist University.
In 2026, BMCU led the SSAC in RBIs, hit-by-pitches, runs, at-bats, total bases, and stolen bases. The Toppers ranked among the NAIA's top 10 in stolen bases, triples, and hit-by-pitches, while also finishing 24th in the NAIA RPI rankings.
Since his arrival, Coach Brunet has coached two NFCA All-Region selections, nine SSAC All-Conference players, three SSAC Gold Glove recipients, two SSAC Pitchers of the Week, one SSAC Player of the Week, 32 SSAC All-Academic Team members, 37 NFCA Scholar-Athletes, and 17 NAIA Scholar-Athletes. His teams have also maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5.
Following the 2026 season, Head Coach Brunet and Assistant Coach MJ George were named the NFCA NAIA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year. The 2026 season also saw BMCU Softball receive the Mayor Todd Strange Female Champions of Character Award.
Before coming to BMCU, Coach Brunet served as an assistant coach and strength and conditioning coach at NCAA Division II Union University for six seasons. During his tenure, Union made four Gulf South Conference Tournament appearances, including the program's first-ever conference tournament victory. The Bulldogs also won two NCCAA Regional Championships and one NCCAA National Championship during his time on staff.
Brunet played baseball at Southfield Christian High School in Southfield, Michigan, before continuing his collegiate career at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana.
Brunet holds a master's degree in sport management from Wayne State University and a doctorate in educational leadership from Union University.

He is married to his wife, Marie, and together they have four children: Maddox, Madelyn, Maverick, and Macklin.
