Matt Brunet announced he has hired Gracey Baucom as the new assistant coach for the BMCU Softball.
Coach Brunet was named head coach of the softball team last year and saw his team make it to the quarterfinals of the SSAC conference tournament in year one.
The 2023 BMCU softball team saw many records broken for team and individual performances such as the stolen base record (
Skylar Lee), RBI record (
Evi Edwards), and highest team batting average (.296).
Coach Baucom's resume speaks for itself as she has won countless awards and posted great stats during her days on the diamond at East Central Community College and Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi. Academic Excellence in Sports Management award, 2022 ASC Academic All-Conference team, 2022 ASC First Team All-Conference, all while having a 17-6 record with 39 appearances and a career ERA of 2.03 on the rubber for the Belhaven University Blazers.
In coach Baucom's two years of playing at Belhaven University, she helped lead the Blazers to a 73-21 record with back-to-back conference and regional championships.
Coach Baucom also served as a graduate assistant for University of South Carolina softball team during the 2024 season, a gamecock team that had an overall record of 36-24 and made it to an NCAA regional.
"Coach Baucom perfectly fits the mission of BMCU Softball" Coach Brunet continues, "She knows the game of softball, succeeded athletically at a high level, possesses a strong work ethic, and has a passion for Christ."
Coach Brunet iterates, "I am excited to begin this journey and welcome her into the Topper family."
