Blue Mountain, Miss.- Blue Mountain Christian Women's Soccer opened its 2026 season Saturday against Louisiana Christian University, falling 3-1 to the Wildcats.
Louisiana Christian got on the board early, with Katalina Medina in the fifth minute off an assist from Isabella Urbaneto to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
The Toppers settled in following the early goal and kept LCU from adding to its advantage for nearly 40 minutes. The Wildcats broke through again just before halftime, however, as Giselle Laing scored in the 45th minute off an assist from Izzy Childs to send LCU into the break ahead 2-0.
Louisiana Christian extended its lead less than two minutes into the second half when Medina found the back of the net for her second goal of the match, putting the Wildcats ahead 3-0.
BMCU continued to battle and generated five shots in the second half. Toppers' pressure paid off in the 66th minute when
Nayelli Aguayo scored BMCU's first goal of the 2026 season off an assist from
Maria Eduarda Koespel, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
The Toppers were unable to draw any closer as the Wildcats held on for the 3-1 victory.
Louisiana Christian finished with a 24-10 advantage in total shots and put 12 attempts on goal compared to six for BMCU. The Wildcats also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
BMCU's defense and goalkeeping unit recorded nine saves in the match, while Louisiana Christian finished with five.
The Toppers will return to action next Saturday when they host Talladega College for their 2026 home opener.
