Montgomery, Ala.- The Blue Mountain Christian women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 SSAC conference victory over Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) on Tuesday in Montgomery, Alabama, using a strong showing in doubles play and key singles wins to secure the match.
The Toppers set the tone early by winning the doubles point.
At No. 1 doubles,
Lucia Rodriguez Garcia and
Lina Cetina delivered a dominant 6-0 victory.
Camila Mordiz and
Eugenia Ramos followed with a solid 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles to give BMCU the early advantage.
The No. 3 doubles match featuring
Kiersten Terris and
Nami Malyaporn went unfinished.
In singles play, the Toppers picked up three important victories to clinch the match.
Eugenia Ramos earned a convincing straight-set win at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0.
Nami Malyaporn added another point with a strong performance at No. 4 singles, winning 7-5, 6-1.
Kiersten Terris was awarded the win at No. 6 singles by default, which ultimately proved to be the deciding point.
ABAC collected wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 singles, but Blue Mountain Christian's doubles point and depth in the singles lineup allowed the Toppers to secure the conference victory.
